ABOUT DR. RACHEL RUBIN
Dr. Rachel S. Rubin is a board-certified urologist and sexual medicine specialist. She is one of only a handful of physicians with fellowship training in sexual medicine for all genders. Dr. Rubin is a clinician, researcher, and passionate educator. In addition to being the former education chair and current Director-at-Large for the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH), she serves as associate editor for the Journal of Sexual Medicine Review and the Video Journal of Sexual Medicine. Dr. Rubin completed her medical education at Tufts University, her urology training at Georgetown University, and her sexual medicine fellowship training with Dr. Irwin Goldstein in San Diego.
Dr. Rubin is passionate about providing comprehensive care to her patients. She views the role of a physician as more than someone who offers diagnoses and prescribes treatments—she sees her role as a coordinator of care for her patients to help them achieve their sexual health goals and improve their quality of life. She also is passionate about educating her patients, hoping to empower them to take control of their own health and advocate for better care.
Early in her medical training, Dr. Rubin recognized the limitations of the current healthcare system. In a 15-minute visit, she couldn’t even hear her patient’s entire story, let alone have a conversation that allowed her and the patient to come up with a care plan based on the patient’s own goals. She launched her own practice in 2022 so she could provide patient-centered care with a multidisciplinary approach, working closely with physical therapists, sex therapists, and other medical and behavioral health providers.
In addition to her practice, Dr. Rubin is active in several medical societies and frequently speaks at conferences. She considers it her responsibility to educate other providers to ensure that they are armed with the tools to provide evidence-based, compassionate care to their patients. Dr. Rubin is also a frequent guest on webinars and podcasts and has been interviewed by journalists for a number of publications.

"I am 56 and I have been in menopause for about 5 years, and of course perimenopause for several years prior. "Dr. Rubin has been a godsend in helping me treat my vaginal pain. I've had difficulty using tampons, getting pelvic exams, and having sex for 17 years, and would feel a sharp stabbing pain and like I was hitting a wall any time I tried. Even wearing tight pants or certain activities, like horseback riding, were uncomfortable. No doctor could ever give me a concrete answer as to why this was happening or offer me a solution beyond "just relaxing" or doing pelvic floor therapy.
